Study shows that some claims about the composition( and perhaps safety) of roundup-ready GMO harvests got it wrong. I have some questions for/ r/ farming about its implications.

I discovered this interesting, and supposed / r/ farming might too. According to a study published in Nature, GMO corn is apparently substantially different than non-GMO corn, despite being labeled as substantially equivalent for many years now. This means that GMO corn may not be as good for you as people previously thought, and may actually be bad for you. And it’s not just corn; soybeans and several other GMOs are affected as well.

Glyphosate tolerant genetically modified( GM) maize NK603 was assessed as’ substantially equivalent’ to its isogenic counterpart by a nutrient composition analysis in order to be granted market acceptance. We have applied contemporary in depth molecular profiling methods of NK603 maize kernels( sprayed or unsprayed with Roundup) and the isogenic corn to reassess its substantial equivalence status. […] Our molecular profiling outcomes show that NK603 and its isogenic control are not substantially equivalent.”

I’m not a farmer but I came from a farming household, and have thoughts of gotta go back to the country and starting a farm of my own. Almost all of our staples are GMO now in most cases, with almost all of them being the roundup-ready assortments. What do you folks suppose agriculture would look like if we had to abandon these modified harvests and find alternatives? How would yields and farming practises be modified, and how would we cope with it on modern farms? Would smaller organic farms have an advantage in that case, or ones that relied on primitive planting and fertilization methods? Would it even be a big deal for farmers to cope with if everyone told “Please stop growing GMO of any kind”?
